On Wednesday 5th July the Assembly reconvened at 9:00am to appoint the new Head of State, as prescribed under Article 18(5)(a) of the Constitution of Samoa, which states, “that the Speaker shall, as soon as possible after receiving the Notice: if the Legislative Assembly is sitting, lay the Notice before the Legislative Assembly to appoint the Head of State”
The Clerk laid the Notice on the table, whether the Assembly approved the appointment of Tuimalealiifano Vaaletoa Sualauvi II as the new Head of State;
The motion was seconded and approved.
Then the Hon Prime Minister gave his Ministerial Statement to congratulate the new Head of State and to extend his gratitude to the current Head of State for his dedication to the role and for upholding the dignity of the Office of the Head of State for 10 years (2 consecutive terms)
After the Hon Prime Minister’s Ministerial Statement, the Assembly adjourned at 9:35am to reconvene at 9:00am on Tuesday, 17th October 2017.
