Legislative Officer undertakes gender research under a PWPP Scholarship

The Legal Research Officer of the Office of the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly (OCLA), Marie Fanueli received a research skills scholarship from the Pacific Women’s Parliament Partnerships (PWPP).

As part of the scholarship, Ms. Fanueli was placed with the Library of the Australian Parliament in Canberra for two weeks and the final weeks of the scholarship with the Tasmanian Parliament.  During her placement she was able to work with a number of experienced research personnel in designing a brief paper on her topic “dissemination of Information by gender”.

The Scholarship sponsors female researchers with the goal of developing their research skills so as to hopefully record gender data in parliamentary reports effectively. Ms Fanueli was also given the opportunity to present to the staff of the Australian Parliamentary Library regarding the Samoan Parliament and the gender equality issue affecting Samoa.

It is expected that her research paper will be published on a later issue of the Palemene Newspaper.
