Afioga Tuimalealiifano Vaaletoa Sualauvi II took the oath of Head of State on Friday 21st July 2017 at the Parliament precinct, Tuanaimato.
The ceremony opened with a prayer service officiated by Reverend Elder Tunumoso Iosia Soliola, Chairman of the Congregational Christian Church of Samoa. The swearing in was administered by His Honour the Chief Justice, Patu Tiavaasue Falefatu Maka Sapolu. His Highness the Head of State delivered the inaugural speech which was an appreciation to the Prime Minister, Cabinet, Members of the Legislative Assembly and the people of Samoa for entrusting him with this integral role. The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Honorable Leaupepe Taimaaiono Toleafoa Faafisi concluded the inauguration ceremony with his final remarks.
The ceremony was followed by a traditional gift (o’o) presentation by his Highness Tuimalealiifano Vaaletoa Sualauvi II and family as well as supporters from districts Falelatai and Samatau as a token of appreciation for the new position.
The position of O le Ao o le Malo is a five year term commencing on the date that the Speaker’s Warrant of Appointment for the Head of State was issued.
