A workshop for Members of Parliament was held on Wednesday, 14th September at the Media Centre, Tuanaimato for clarifications on the Pacific Agreement on Closer Economic Relations – Plus (PACER-Plus). This workshop was facilitated by the Trade Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
The workshop is part of a series of seminars which aims to raise awareness on the status of the PACER Plus in Samoa.The PACER Plus is a regional trade agreement being negotiated between Australia, New Zealand and 14 Pacific Island Countries since 2009 (PICs).
The Minister of Commerce, Industry and Labour, Hon. LautafiFioSelafi Purcell delivered the opening address, followed by presentations from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade presenters and the Chief Trade Advisor for the Pacific Region Dr. Edwini Kessie.
The workshop increases awareness of the Agreement and is an important step towards Samoa’s finalization of negotiations and possible signing of the Agreement in December 2016 and subsequent ratification.
