Parliamentary Sitting

Parliament reconvened on Tuesday 20th December and will be its final sitting for the year 2016 following the Prayer Breakfast Ceremony. Approximately 18 Committee Reports were tabled in accordance with Standing Orders 52(5); Two bills were passed through Parliament after being considered in detail by the Assembly (the Coroners Bill 2016 and the Village Fono Amendment Bill 2016).

The First Supplementary Estimates 2016/2017 was tabled in Parliament and was preluded by the Budget Speech by the Minister of Finance Hon. Sili Epa Tuioti.

Four Bills were introduced and second read in the Assembly and referred to their respective Parliamentary Committees for further scrutiny. They are:

Supplementary Appropriation Bill (No. 1) 2016/2017;

  • Constitution Amendment Bill (No. 2) 2016;
  • Police Services Amendment Bill 2016; and
  • Customs Tariff Amendment Bill 2016.

It is expected that the Parliamentary Committees are to report back to Parliament within three months as stipulated by the Standing Orders except for the Supplementary Appropriation Bill (No. 1) 2016/2017 to be reported to Parliament in no less than 14 days commencing on the date of its referral to Committees.
