Following the General Elections, Parliament has once again held a Post-Election Seminar for its Members from the 11th – 12th March 2016. The Seminar offers capacity building and familiarization for newly elected Members of Parliament. The keynote address was given by the Prime Minister, Hon Tuilaepa Auelua Fatialofa Dr. Sailele Malielegaoi.
The Resource team included Professors from Victoria University, NZ; Flinders University, Adelaide; and the University of Tasmania School of Law. Sessions of this Seminar covered topics such as Principles and Standards of Parliamentary Democracy, Practice and Procedure in the House, Privileges and Contempt of Parliament, Rules of Debate and Exceptions and Analytical Approach to Law-Making to name a few.
Following the two-day seminar for Members, a one day session was held for Parliamentary Staff on parliamentary practice and procedure.
This Seminar is jointly funded by the Parliament of Samoa and the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (C.P.A).
