The 6th China Studied Tour for Pacific Nation Parliamentary Delegates
The International Department of the Central Committee of Communist Party of China hosted the 6th China Study Tour for the Pacific Region from 5th – 14th July 2016. The Samoan Delegation included:

On the theme, “New Development and New Opportunities”, the Study Tour gave participants the chance to experience China’s 13th Five-Year plan and the “One Belt One Road” initiative for social economic development. The Samoan delegation visited sites that contributed to the development of China’s economy through agriculture, fishery, tourism, and renewable energy.
The study tour consults the developing of strategies to help China exit poverty and prevent ways to minimize its effects on China and a lesson learned for the Pacific island nations.
Agenda 2030 Workshop for Pacific Parliaments on Prioritizing the ICPD Agenda in the Sustainable Development Goals
More than 30 delegates representing 10 Pacific countries attended the two-day workshop on “The Agenda 2030 Workshop for Pacific Parliaments on Prioritizing the ICPD Agenda in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” in Wellington, New Zealand.
The workshop was organized by the Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD) in close cooperation with the New Zealand Parliamentarians Group on Population and Development (NZPPD). The main theme is mainstreaming ICPD in the SDGs implementation planning process in the first year of the SDGs.
The workshop focused on strengthening the capacity of parliamentarians and National Committee secretariat staff by rolling out the AFPPD’s resources. The workshop employ primarily three resource materials as follows:
- Parliamentarian Resource Kit on SRHR and Population and Development Links in Asia and the Pacific in the Post 2015 (2nd Edition);
- Policy Advocacy Manual for Asia-Pacific Parliamentarians Advancing Population and Development Issues Beyond 2015;
- Engaging Boys and Men in Sexual and Reproductive Health.
The Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Fiame Naomi Mataafa, Chairman of Economic Sector Committee, Hon. Lauofo Fonotoe Nuafesili Pierre Lauofo, and Chairman of Finance & Expenditure Committee Afioga Aliimalemanu Alofa Tuuau attended the workshop.
The 43rd Session of the ACP Parliamentary Assembly Brussels, Belgium
The 43rd Session of the ACP Parliamentary Assembly and Inter-Sessional Meeting of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamenary Assembly were held from 11th-14th October 2016in Brussels, Belgium.
Hon. Gatoloaifaana Amataga Alesana Gidlow (MP), Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee for Social Sector represented the Parliament of Samoa.
The meeting discussed topics on Committee on Economic Development, Finance and Trade; Committee on Social Affairs and the Environment and Committee on Political Affairs.
