Women’s Parliamentary Programme, 8th, 10th, 16th & 17th December 2014
As part of ongoing parliamentary awareness and educational programmes, the Office of the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly (OCLA) will host its 2nd Women’s Parliamentary Programme on the 8th, 10th, 16th and 17th of December to encourage women to take interest in politics and further increase their participation in the legislative process.
The programme this year will be conducted in segmentation forums. The first forum will be held in Savaii on the 8th of December 2014 at the Sapapalii EFKS Hall, to be followed by the second forum in Upolu on the 10th of December 2014 at the Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi (TATTE) Conference Centre at Sogi.
The culminating programme will be hosted at the Maota Tofilau Eti Alesana Building at Mulinuu on 16th and the 17th of December 2014. Nominated women from the first two forums will be selected for this programme. During the 2 days, they will learn about the work of parliament and develop a strategic framework to assist interested women for future general elections. OCLA has secured the assistance of the Pacific Women Parliamentary Partnership (PWPP) in Canberra for facilitation of the Programme.
Approximately 480 participants are expected to attend.
These programmes are some of the initiatives of the Samoa Parliamentary Support Programme jointly funded by the Government of Australia and the Government of Samoa and implemented by OCLA and UNDP.
